Dr Dirk Backes

I am operating the superconducting vector magnet (maximum 6 Tesla) with LHe insert (>1.5 Kelvin) for x-ray spectroscopy with polarised light (XAS, XMCD, X(M)LD). I have also experience in magnetic imaging using PEEM and STXM, low-temperature transport, thin film deposition and nanofabrication.

My research focuses on quantum materials and advanced x-ray characterisation for quantum information science. I am particularly interested in quantum anomalous Hall systems (topological insulator/antiferromagnet-heterostructures) and hybrid systems (magnon-magnon coupling).
