We collect data in the following ways:
Data given to us by you
If you choose to register as an AFMNET member, we will collect the following data from you:
- email address;
- title;
- name;
- organisation name and type;
- job title or role;
- career stage;
- website URL (optional);
- information on your capabilities and expertise and your research and development interests (all optional);
This information is collected in order to facilitate the activities of AFMNET.
We will also direct you to a separate form to enable us to collect data for EDI monitoring purposes. These questions are all optional. This information is collected to monitor the diversity of the AFMNET membership.
We collect your email address to administer your account. Your email address is used both as your login identifier and to contact you about your account. This includes confirming account creation, notifying you whether your account request has been approved or rejected, sending password reset or security notifications, and communicating important service updates.
If the website is discontinued at the end of the AFMNET funding period, we will use your email address to notify you about the closure of the service and the status of your account.
Data that is collected automatically
We collect website user journey information automatically when you access the website. This information helps us to make improvements to website content and navigation.

Captcha (Cloudflare Turnstile)
We use Cloudflare Turnstile to protect our website from spam and bots. Turnstile may collect certain technical data, including your IP address, browser type, and user-agent information, to determine whether a request is made by a human user.
This data is processed by Cloudflare on our behalf solely for security and fraud prevention purposes and is not used for advertising. For further details, please refer to Cloudflare’s Turnstile Privacy Addendum.

Consent
Data sharing and security
Membership data will be stored in a database hosted by WPEngine, in accordance with the University of Leeds information protection policy. This data will be accessible by the Project Lead (Professor Robert Hicken), Project Co-Lead (Professor Peter Wadley), and Project Manager (Ms Lucy Sweeney).
EDI data will be pseudonymised at the time of registration and stored in a secure standalone database. The data will be accessed by the Project Lead, Project Co-Lead, and Project Manager only. Trends in EDI data will be shared outside of AFMNET, including with the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC); however, since this data is pseudonymised, it will not be identifiable to you. Ethical approval has been sought and granted for this data collection (reference EPS FREC – 2025 3671-5561, University of Leeds).
Your rights
It is important that the personal data we hold about you is accurate and current. Please keep us informed if the personal data you have provided to us needs to be updated.
You have the right to:
- withdraw consent at any time where that is the legal basis of our processing;
- access your personal data that we process;
- rectify inaccuracies in personal data that we hold about you;
- request that your details are removed from systems that we use to process your personal data;
- restrict the processing in certain ways;
- object to certain processing of your personal data by us
